Networking the home..

on Sunday, July 26, 2009

Hi,

Todays nerd-post is gonna be about something that all women LOVE .. aka.. getting rid of cables in the home.

Today i'm gonna give a bit of advice about "network cabels".

More and more people use wireless networking (wifi) around the house, but wifi still fails when it comes to video streaming.

Also, we are forced to use BBB's piece of shit router, with the wonderfull result that we have less or NO wireless upstairs, the solution is to connect a cable to our network and drag it upstairs, something that gives the correct result, but dosent fall in the wifes liking.

So, the solution was a 1299 kr "devolo 2x HomePlug AV Adapters" from Teknik magasinet.

Lets have a look at it.. shall we?

.. after spending (to much??) money in it, the fund part comes.. the unpacking...

.. and vupti.. 2xadapters, a CD (that, i might add - works for both Linux, Windows and OSX.. GOOOOD STUFF) ..

So, here is howto to it.

1. Buy the set
2. Unpack it (strange as it may sound)
3. Insert the CD into a computer and install the software
4. Plug in the first adapter into the electricity in the wall and attach it to the network
5. Run the software you just installed, it will now detect the first unit
6. Connect the other unit and enter the security ID from the bottom of the second unit into the program.

- wolla -

You are up and running and it works like a charm.

Enjoy!

L.
